Torry Peterson

Entering his sixth year at East Texas Baptist University as an assistant baseball coach is Torry Peterson.  The 2010 alumnus also played three years for ETBU and helps as a hitting coach and first base coach.

Peterson’s love for baseball brought him to ETBU in 2009 as a player for the Tigers.  His final career batting average came to .305 as he started 44 games and played in 60 games while battling injuries his entire career.  He began his career at Texas A&M-International where he started 25 games and hit .325.

The Pearland High School product had a stellar high school career in both football and baseball.  He was a two-time All-District first-team selection that had a career batting average of .305.  In football, he earned a spot on the Big 24-5A All-District team, twice, as a defensive end and helped his team to a perfect 10-0 record in 2005.

Having to choose between the two sports he loved after high school, Peterson chose to play baseball.  He had numerous NCAA Division I football offers but chose to take a scholarship at NCAA Division II Texas A&M-International for baseball.

The 2010 graduate of ETBU majored in Kinesiology with a minor in psychology. He married former ETBU volleyball player and now head coach Keely Schlabs in June 2013 and they have one daughter. Torry also enjoys fishing and watching as much sports as possible.
