Jason Bachtel

POSITION: Offensive Coordinator (Quarterbacks, Camp Liaison)
Entering his second year as the offensive coordinator under Brian Mayper, Jason Bachtel will direct one of the most potent offenses in NCAA Division III. He came to ETBU in June 2018 from North Forney High School and has spent over 14 years working with offenses from being a quarterbacks and running backs coach to an offensive coordinator.

ETBU's 2018 offense averaged 41.8 points per game putting up 510 yards of total offense in those games. His passing offense of 300.6 yards per game led the American Southwest Conference. Quarterback Brian Baca was an All-ASC first team selection leading the ASC in passing average per game, total offense (321.1 ypg) and touchdowns (28). Wide receiver Richard Johnson was named an All-American and finished with 932 yards receiving to lead the ASC. ETBU's offense recorded over 600 yards of total offense three times with 671 yards vs. Sul Ross State, 676 yards vs. Howard Payne, and 793 yards against McMurry.

In his final year at North Forney, the offense averaged 53 points per game and finished 10-3 on the year making a run into the playoffs. He spent six years as the head coach and Athletic Director at Scurry-Rosser High School where he was the 2013 District 6 Coach of the Year guiding his team to a 12-1 record.

Bachtel has also been an assistant coach at Galena Park High School and Gatesville High School. He started his coaching career as a student assistant at Howard Payne University in 2002 as the running backs coach. In that year, HPU went 9-1 and finished ranked 17th in the AFCA national poll and 10th in the Football Gazette poll.

He is no stranger to the American Southwest Conference as a three-year letterman for Howard Payne University at quarterback. In those three years, HPU won 19 games as he finished his senior year at 8-2.

Graduating in 2003 with a Bachelor of Science in History, he is currently working on a Master of Education in Educational Administration at Lamar University. He has been married to Tara for 16 years and has four children: Talen, Bailee, Brooklyn, and newborn Blaire.
