Richard Embry

Richard Embry is in his first season under Head Coach Brian Mayper and will lead the defensive line. Embry brings a wealth of knowledge in player development, maximizing student-athlete potential, as well as exceptional communication skills.

Embry has experience working with a variety of positions, including linebackers, tight ends and full backs. He also brings expertise in drafting game strategies and determining player positions. He served as the defensive coordinator and head track and field coach at Green Oaks Performing Arts High School in 2017 in Louisiana. He was also the defensive coordinator for A+ Academy High School in Dallas, Texas, from 2015-2016. During his tenure, he helped to lead the program to a championship in 2015. Embry also contributed to a Central States Conference Championship from 2014-2015 at Langston University (Okla.) working as the tight end and defensive end coach.

As a student-athlete, Embry gained several accolades on the field. In 2011, he was an All-Conference first-team selection as a linebacker in the Central States Football League while also being named the Central States Football League Defensive MVP in 2011. During his tenure at SAGU, he served as the defensive captain from 2010-2011. In high school, he was a four-year letter winner in both power lifting and football. He was also a first place All-Region Power Lifter and a 2007 football defensive MVP for his team. Prior to his playing time at SAGU, Embry won a conference championship at Navarro Junior College in 2007.
 
Embry has served his community through the years as a youth sponsor at Solid Rock Baptist Church in Paris, Texas. He was also a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes during his time at SAGU. He has also spent time coaching at a football summer camp at Ennis High School teaching 3rd-8th grade position drills and techniques. 

Embry earned a Bachelor of Arts in Sports Management from Southwestern Assemblies of God University in 2012.
