Scott Highsmith

Scott Highsmith enters his first season as head coach for the East Texas Baptist University football team after being the passing game coordinator and wide receivers coach the past two years. He becomes the fifth head football coach since the program started in 2000. In 2015, he was on staff of an ETBU team that led won a share of the American Southwest Conference championship. He is a graduate of Howard Payne University.

2016 Offensive Highlights
  • Coached an offense that finished as the top scoring offense in all of NCAA
  • ETBU went 7-3 for back-to-back winning seasons for the first time in 10 years
  • Dru Smith threw for over 3,000 yards and a single season record 34 touchdowns
  • Dru Smith passed for an ETBU single game record 530 yards and six touchdowns vs. Louisiana College in a 64-62 win in Pineville, La.
  • ETBU offense scored a program record 85 points vs. Southwestern Assemblies of God
  • Offense averaged 568 yards per game with 368 yards in the air

Kentucky (1999-00) – wide receivers/running backs
  • Coached under Hal Mumme and the Air Raid Offense
  • Coached in the 1999 Music City Bowl
  • Kentucky went 6-6 overall in 1999
Southeastern Louisiana University (2005-06) –offensive coordinator/quarterbacks
  • Coached under Dennis Roland
  • Offense averaged 403 yards per game in 2005

NCAA Division II Coaching Experience
McMurry University (2011-12) – running backs/recruiting coach
  • Coached under Hal Mumme (McM was transitioning to NCAA Division II)
  • McM went 17-6 in those two seasons
  • Coached in the 2011 NCAA Division III playoffs as McM went 1-1 with a win over Trinity
  • Part of McM history defeating NCAA Division I Texas San Antonio, 24-21
  • McM played in the CHAMPS Heart of Texas Bowl in 2012 defeating Southern Arkansas 36-35
Southeastern Oklahoma State University (2013-14) – quarterbacks, recruiting coach
  • SEOSU went 7-5 in 2014 and played in the Live United Bowl
  • Ryan Polite threw for over 2,600 yards and 19 touchdowns

  • Offense led the NAIA in passing in 2003
