POSITION: Assistant Head Coach, Offensive Line, Recruiting Coordinator
Gibson enters his third season under head coach Brian Mayper and is a strong addition to the staff being a veteran Texas high school and college coach. Gibson comes to ETBU with significant experience as a Texas High School 5A and NCAA Division III head football coach.
Two players were named All-ASC under Gibson in the 2021 spring season in Cory Stang (3rd team) and Erick Arellano (HM). The linemen helped ETBU to the third best scoring offense in the ASC at 33.6 points per game.Â
In the 2019 season, Gibson had three offensive lineman named ASC All-honorable mention in Jonathan Kalafatis, Michael Kalafatis, and Cory Stang. ETBU's offense finished fourth in the ASC averaging 387.2 yards per game.

Gibson brings over 40 years of coaching to the ETBU, including both high school and college. He spent 13 seasons (1992-2004) at Howard Payne University, where he still ranks as the winningest head coach, with 89 wins and the best winning percentage (.627).   In the high school ranks, he has been associated with 10 championship high school teams and 17 playoff teams.

In 11 seasons at Howard Payne, he guided his teams to three TIAA (Texas Intercollegiate Athletic Association) conference championships, winning it outright in 1992 and tying for the championship in 1994 and 1995. In 13 years, he posted 11 winning seasons and were nationally ranked numerous times in the NAIA and NCAA Division III.

HPU was amongst one of the winningest college football programs in the 1990s in Texas. Â From 1992 to 1999, HPU went 52-28 posting eight win seasons in 1992, 1996 and 1998. His teams were nationally ranked five times in the NAIA in 1992 (6th), 1994 (23rd), 1995 (13th), and 1996 (19th) and once in NCAA Division III in 2002 (17th).

During his time at HPU, he coached 23 All-Americans and five went onto be inducted into the Athletics Hall of Fame, where Gibson is also a member. Several of his players also went on to play professionally. Gipson also spend three years as the assistant head coach and offensive coordinator at Sam Houston State University.Â

He has spent the last 13 years at Frisco High School as the athletic coordinator and head football coach, winning 83 games. Other high school coaching stops as an assistant coach have included Garland, Irving MacArthur, Plano Senior High, Abilene Cooper, and Williams. He was also the head coach at Sherman High School.

Gibson has had the honor of speaking at Nike football clinics and at the Texas High School Coaches Association (THSCA) convention.

He holds two degrees from Austin College, which include a bachelor's degree (1975) and a master's degree (1976). Gibson is married to Darla and they have seven grown children and numerous grandchildren. The Gibson's are active members of First Baptist Church Frisco.
