Alain Savage

Alain "Savy" Savage, a former Shreveport Mudbug player, enters his sixth year as the head coach for the hockey program. Savage is originally from Canada and has a wealth of hockey experience he brings to ETBU.

Working through the COVID-19 restrictions for the 2020-21 season, Savage guided ETBU to a 12-8 record and their first appearance in the ACHA Division II National Tournament. ETBU was ranked as high as 8th in the nation and won their first ACHA National Tournament game in an 11-2 win over #10 Adrian College. He also coached the program's first-ever All-American in Ryan Gruzska.

The 2019-20 season became one of the best seasons in the six year history of the program as ETBU won the TCHC North Division Regular Season Championship and then was selected for the ACHA West Region Tournament. ETBU won a program best 22 games and started the season off 17-0.

Savage is from Montreal, Quebec, where he played Junior A in the QMJHL for four seasons, before moving on to play professionally.  A highlight of his professional career was being invited to the Pittsburgh Penguins camp where he skated with two hockey legends, Mario Lemieux and Jaromir Jagr.  He was also invited to skate with in New York Islanders pre-season camp.

Savage went on to play 11 years of professional hockey playing in multiple professional leagues in the U.S. and internationally.  This included winning a national championship with ETBU partner, the Shreveport Mudbugs, and playing in a top French professional league.

When his professional career was ending, Savage chose to settle down in Shreveport, Louisiana, where he currently resides with his wife, Elle, and 6 kids Lexi, Cael, Cameron, Alex, Aiden and Ari.   The Savages attend Cypress Baptist Church in Benton, Louisiana.  Savage brings a grit and an edge to the ETBU coaching staff as well as a fantastic knowledge of the game.
