MARSHALL, Texas – Fighting for first place in the American Southwest Conference East Division, East Texas Baptist University edged the University of Texas Dallas (11-4, 5-3), 61-57, to improve to 12-4 overall. UTD was within two points with five seconds to go but Bret Atkins sunk two free throws with two seconds remaining to seal the four-point win. It is the second straight win vs. UTD as ETBU won the second meeting last year in Marshall, 63-58.

Bret Atkins shot five-of-10 from the field, including a pair of three-point shots, and converted three-of-four free throws on his way to a team-best 15 points. Wilbert Thomas finished with just five points but led ETBU with nine rebounds. Coming off the bench, CJ Sweet chipped in 10 points on four-of-seven shooting to go along with three rebounds. For Texas Dallas, Reagan Keogh scored a game-high 18 points, including 14 in the second half. He also added seven rebounds and two blocked shots. After that point the seven ties took place with the final two and a half minutes two ties happened. C. J. Sweet made it a two-point lead at the half with a jumper at the 33 second mark and Mitchell stole the ball with two seconds left to give ETBU the advantage heading to the locker room.

In the second half, a Caleb Banks basket at the 16:02 mark put Texas Dallas in the lead, 38-37. ETBU then scored 10-consecutive points to assume a 47-38 advantage with less than 10 minutes remaining, a lead that it did not relinquish.Texas Dallas would draw as close as a single point at 52-51 following a Davis 3-point shot with 4:36 on the clock, but ETBU scored nine of the game's final 15 points to claim the 61-57 victory.

Next on the schedule for ETBU is another home game against the University of the Ozarks (Ark.) at 3 p.m., on Saturday.
