Box Score MARSHALL, Texas – Combining for 57 points, all five starters for East Texas Baptist University scored in double-figures as the men's basketball team moved past LeTourneau University, 76-58, in the American Southwest Conference East Division play. ETBU is now 14-4 overall and 7-2 in the ASC East and won their last six games.
Junior Mitchell led the team with 17 points producing four assists as he made a perfect six-of-six shots from the field. Eric Horton picked up his first double-double of the year with 11 points and 10 rebounds, and Dylan Augustine chipped in 11 points. Jordan Quillian and Bret Atkins both finished with 10 points and five rebounds. For LeTourneau, Jeff Martin had 17 points.
ETBU led from start to finish, going ahead by as many as 23 points in the second half. In the first half, ETBU shot 56.0 percent (14-of-25) to assume 36-26 at the break. Ahead by a 28-18 margin, ETBU scored six-straight points to claim a 34-18 edge before LeTourneau closed out the half with an 8-2 spurt trimming the lead to 10.
To begin the second half, LeTourneau used a 12-5 run to draw within five points of ETBU, 43-38. A 25-7 burst by ETBU, however, swelled its advantage to 23 points, 68-45, after a Wilbert Thomas basket. During this run, Quillian had six points, while Horton, Thomas and Mitchell chipped in four points apiece.
ETBU finished the game shooting 51 percent from the floor and 40 percent from the arc making 75 percent of their free throws. They held LeTourneau to just 36 percent shooting and 27 percent from three-point range and out rebounded them, 37-26.
ETBU hosts the University of Texas-Tyler at 3 p.m. on Saturday in their first meeting of the year in ASC East play.
