#TIGERSWIN: ETBU Hits Century Mark for Third Game in a Row

Box Score

MARSHALL, Texas – In a wire-to-wire contest, the East Texas Baptist University men's basketball team scored 100 points in their third straight game to beat Concordia University 100-96 in a pre-Thanksgiving game. ETBU knocked down key free throws to pull away from Concordia late in the second half.

Concordia put the pressure on ETBU early as they turned the ball over 19 times in the first half, but ETBU was only down 41-45 at the break. ETBU fell behind 51-41 in the first minute of the second half again because of the Concordia pressure, but ETBU responded with a 10-0 run to even the game at 51-51. The game remained close for the rest of the second half, but ETBU began inching its way to the win, sinking nine of their final ten free throws to win the game.

As a team ETBU shot 22 less shots in the game than Concordia, but made two more shots. ETBU shot 67% as a team from the floor, and shot 71% from the free throw line in the win. Jordan Quillian made 32 points, his second straight game with at least 30 points, and finished 13-14 from the field. Landin Brown had 15 points, 11 of those came from the free throw line. Jordan Gosey and Will Thomas had 11 points and 10 points to round out the top four for ETBU.

ETBU out rebounded Concordia 37-31 in the contest, and also in assists 25-10. ETBU had four players that had five assists: Robby Dooley, Quillian, Jordan Gray, and Chris Barrett. ETBU made shots when it counted, as they were 18-25 from the floor in the second half. All of Brown's 15 points came in the second half, as well as all of Gosey's 11 points.

Concordia had 33 of their 96 points off of ETBU turnovers. Ben Page led the way with 21 points, and Payton Barnes had 18 points off the bench. Page also led Concordia with six rebounds in the game. Concordia was 34-76 from the field, and 9-23 from behind the arc.

ETBU head coach Brandon Curran after the game: "I am really proud of these guys. I really thought they hung in and fought. I thought the guys did a really great job of never getting down. They played with confidence, and we always say "next play", no matter is something good happens or bad happens. I give Concordia a lot of credit, they gave us a lot of problems, especially in the first half. Whenever we did handle their pressure we got great shots and we knocked shots down."

ETBU will return to action next weekend as they head to Abilene, Texas to take on Hardin-Simmons University on Thursday, and McMurry University on Saturday to begin American Southwest Conference action. HSU was picked to win the ASC West Division this season, led by preseason All-American Justin Jones. HSU and McMurry are both 1-2 this season.
