Basketball Falls At Louisiana College, 67-65

PINEVILLE, La. – Playing in its first road in nearly two-and-a-half weeks, the East Texas Baptist University women's basketball team was edged by Louisiana College, 67-65, on Monday evening inside of H. O. West Fieldhouse. The loss puts ETBU at 13-7 overall and 6-5 in American Southwest Conference games.

Lauren Lee contributed a team-high 16 points for ETBU to go along with four rebounds, two steals and two blocked shots. Taylee Alexander totaled 12 points, eight rebounds and two blocked shots before fouling out late in the fourth quarter. Cekret Davis finished with 11 points and 10 rebounds, while Morgan Garrett chipped in seven points, three rebounds and a game-best six steals.

During the second quarter, April Leonard scored a basket at the 4:34 mark, pushing ETBU ahead by a 32-23 margin. With those pair of points, Leonard reached the 1,000-point mark for her ETBU career, becoming the program's second player in as many seasons to reach that milestone. Last season, Amanda Rucker scored her 1,000th career point also. For the evening, Leonard finished with eight points, four rebounds and two assists.

With fewer than eight minutes remaining in regulation, ETBU held an eight-point advantage, 55-47, following a Raziya Chase basket with 7:57 on the clock. Louisiana College would then respond, however, going on a 14-6 run to knot the score at 61-61. During this stretch, ETBU shot two-of-eight from the field. In comparison, Louisiana College hit four-of-eight shots from the floor as well as six-of-six free throws. A Kourtney McGhee basket at the 4:17 mark tied the game up.

A basket by Alexander and a pair of Leonard free throws gave ETBU a 65-61 edge with 3:47 left in the game. ETBU would not score again though, missing its final 10 shots from the field and both foul shots. To close out the game, Louisiana College scored the final half dozen points, punctuated by Kourtney Kling's basket with 17 seconds to play to propel the home team back into the lead, 66-65.

Overall, ETBU shot 33.8 percent from the floor (23-of-68) and 21.1 percent from 3-point range (four-of-19). For the evening, Louisiana College held a 56-to-42 advantage in rebounding.

ETBU continues its five-game road trip on Feb. 4 at No. 5-ranked University of Texas-Tyler for a 5:30 p.m. matchup.
