GEORGETOWN, Texas – Playing in a neutral-site match, the East Texas Baptist University women's tennis team topped Schreiner (Texas) University, 6-3, on Friday afternoon at the Marvin D. Henderson, Sr. Tennis Courts. With its fourth victory in as many tries against regionally-ranked competition this season, ETBU ups its overall record to 6-0. Ranked No. 18 in the West Region of the ITA rankings, Schreiner drops to 6-2.
To start the match, ETBU won all three doubles flights to move ahead by a 3-0 score.
In the top-seeded doubles match, ETBU's nationally-ranked pair of Kate Bramlett and Kayla Casey claimed an 8-3 victory against Camila Anguiano and Kara Miller. Elizabeth Morton and Tiffany Stankiewicz followed with an 8-6 win in the No. 2 doubles flight over Kelsey Buczkowski and Katie Watts. To wrap up the doubles competition, Jabree McClaine and Sierra Pizarro were 8-6 winners against Abby Knedlik and Karyn Swink in the third-seeded match.
The action moved into the singles flights, and Casey pushed ETBU's lead to 4-1 with her 6-0, 6-0 victory against Alexandra Wheeler in the No. 1 singles match. Following a Schreiner win in the third-seeded singles flight, Kellie Cawthon clinched the match victory for ETBU with a 6-2, 7-5 defeat of Watts in the No. 5 singles match. ETBU's final point of the day came courtesy of Mullika Seekhieo's 6-2, 6-2 win over Buczkowski in the sixth-seeded singles match.
ETBU plays a pair of matches on Saturday, starting with a match at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor at 9 a.m. in Belton, Texas. Later on in the afternoon, ETBU will return to Georgetown and face Southwestern (Texas) University for a 4 p.m. matchup.
