MARSHALL, Texas – The No. 4-ranked East Texas Baptist University softball team returned home and defeated the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor, 12-2, in five innings on Friday evening at Taylor Field. Now winners of six-consecutive games, ETBU ups its overall record to 6-2 and 4-0 in American Southwest Conference competition.

Two-time reigning ASC Hitter of the Week winner Lacey Lindsey went 3-for-3 with a two-run home run and also scored twice. Kaitlyn Hollinshead also homered for ETBU. She hit a three-run shot to left field in the bottom of the third inning and ended the night with four RBI. At the top of the batting order, Lindsey Vasquez scored twice and stole two bases. Playing center field, Vasquez also threw out a Mary Hardin-Baylor batter who attempted to stretch a base hit into a double.

In the pitcher's circle, Raquel Tello improved to 3-0 this season. She pitched a five-inning complete game for ETBU, scattering seven hits and allowing two runs (both earned). She walked none and struck out three.

ETBU trailed by a 1-0 margin heading into the bottom of the first, but four batters later claimed a 4-1 edge following an RBI single off the bat of Jayme Perez and then Lindsey's home run on a 1-1 pitch. Later on with a 7-2 advantage in hand, ETBU scored five more runs in the bottom half of the fourth to account for the final score, 12-2. In that half-inning, Perez, Lindsey, Jessica Bowden and Hollingshead all drove in runs for ETBU.

ETBU and Mary Hardin-Baylor play a doubleheader on Saturday beginning at 1 p.m. to close out the three-game series.
