Box Score 2 MARSHALL, Texas – To conclude the three-game series, the No. 4-ranked East Texas Baptist University softball team went 1-1 against the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor on Saturday afternoon at Taylor Field. ETBU won game one by a 6-4 final but dropped the nightcap, 3-2. ETBU is now 7-3 overall and 5-1 in American Southwest Conference play.
Trailing by a 4-2 margin in the opener, ETBU used a four-run sixth inning to escape with the 6-4 victory. With runners on first and second and one out, Katy Hill tripled to right field to tie the game at 4-4. A Mary Hardin-Baylor player attempted to throw out Hill at third base, but the relay went wide and bounced near the third-base dugout, allowing Hill to score the tie-breaking run. Linzie Lewis later doubled in a run to account for the 6-4 final score.
Entering in relief of game one starter Jade Sones, Raquel Tello (4-0) earned her second win in as many days. She pitched three perfect innings and struck out four with no walks.
Game two came down to the late innings once again, but this time around Mary Hardin-Baylor came out on top, 3-2.
Starting pitcher Kelly Jo McLedon (0-3) took the loss for ETBU. She pitched 6 1/3 innings and allowed six hits and three runs (all earned). McLendon walked one and struck out five batters. Jayme Perez went 3-for-4 at the plate and scored once.
ETBU travels to Brownwood, Texas, for its next games, playing at Howard Payne (Texas) University. The three-game series starts with a doubleheader on March 4 at 1 p.m.
