#TIGERSWIN: Softball Claims Two

Columbus, Ga. - Competing in another pair of games, the seventh-ranked East Texas Baptist University softball team won twice during the second day of the NFCA Division III Leadoff Classic. ETBU defeated Eastern Connecticut State University, 10-0, in five innings to wrap up pool play and then prevailed, 8-5, against Augustana (Ill.) College in the Silver Championship Bracket play.

ETBU improves to 13-4 overall, and Raquel Tello earned the win in the pitcher's circle during both games. Jayme Perez and Lacey Lindsey both homered for ETBU.

Game One - ETBU 10, Eastern Conn. St. 0 (five innings)

Playing as the visiting team, ETBU scored four times to open the game and never looked back in claiming the five-inning shutout victory. Tello threw a one-hitter over those five innings, walking three and striking out four batters. In the leadoff spot, Perez went 2-for-3 with a solo home run, three RBI and scored twice. Shelby Irlbeck was 2-for-3 with three RBI, while Lindsey hit a two-run homer in the fourth inning.

Game Two - ETBU 8, Augustana (Ill.) 5

Advancing to the Silver Championshp Bracket, ETBU matched up with Augustana and held on for an 8-5 victory. Tello (8-1) started in the pitcher's circle and yet again earned the winning decision. She threw four innings and surrendered eight hits, four runs (all earned), two walks and struck out two hitters. Kelly Jo McLendon entered in relief of Tello and pitched the final three innings for the save. McLendon allowed two hits and one run with three strikeouts.

ETBU scored five runs in the bottom half of the third to move ahead, 5-1. Following a three-run inning for Augustana in the fourth, ETBU later responded with three runs of its own in the sixth to push back to an 8-4 advantage. For the night, Lindsey went 2-for-4, whlile Irlbeck drove in a pair of runs as part of a 2-for-4 performance at the plate. Kaitlyn Hollingshead and Katy Hill also each had two RBI apiece.

ETBU continues in the Silver Championship Bracket on Sunday morning, playing against the University of St. Thomas (Minn.) at 10 a.m.
