Box Score 2 TYLER, Texas - In a matchup of top-five teams, the No. 5 East Texas Baptist University softball fell in both ends of a Tuesday doubleheader against top-ranked University of Texas-Tyler at Suddenlink Field. Game scores were 6-1 and 8-2. The results move ETBU to 21-6 overall and 14-3 in American Southwest Conference games.
Game One: Texas-Tyler 6, ETBU 1
Tied at 1-1 through two-and-a-half innings, the opener saw Texas-Tyler score the final five runs to capture a 6-1 victory. ETBU's Alexis Padilla hit a two-out solo home run on a full-count pitch to knot the game up, 1-1, in the top half of the second inning. Padilla finished 2-for-2, accounting for two-of-three base hits by ETBU in game one. ETBU starting pitcher Kelly Jo McLendon (7-4) took the loss in the circle. She pitched five-plus innings, allowing seven hits, four runs (all earned) and six walks.
Game Two: Texas-Tyler 8, ETBU 2
In the nightcap, ETBU once again faced an early deficit, falling behind by a 4-0 margin after three innings. To lead off the top of the fourth, Kaitlyn Hollingshead hit a first-pitch homer to make it a 4-1 deficit for ETBU. Texas-Tyler then scored another four times, however, to go up by an 8-1 score after six innings. In the circle for ETBU, Raquel Tello (11-2) surrendered nine hits and eight runs (all earned) in the loss.
ETBU and Texas-Tyler close out the three-game series on Wednesday with first pitch scheduled for 6 p.m.
