Box Score 2 MARSHALL, Texas – Combining for 20 runs in a double header sweep on Friday night, the East Texas Baptist University softball team improved to 28-7 on the year (21-4 ASC) with a 12-0 and 8-0 shutout wins over Sul Ross State University. In game two, Lacey Lindsey hit her 10th home run of the year which was her 41st career home to break the American Southwest Conference's career record.
Rocki Tello received the win for both games giving up just two hits in nine innings pitched with three strikeouts. Kelly Jo McLendon pitched one inning in game one giving up just one hit. On the day, Lindsey Vasquez, Kaitlyn Hollingshead, and Alexis Padilla all had four hits.
Game 1
ETBU 12, SRSU 0 (five innings)
After scoring two runs in the first inning, ETBU erupted for nine runs in the second for the 11-0 lead and then added their 12th run in the third inning. Vasquez, Jayme Perez, Lindsey, Padilla, and Hollingshead all had two hits. Hollingshead led the team with three RBI while Vasquez, Lewis, and Perez all had two RBI. Padilla and Shelby Irlbeck recorded one RBI. Tello went four innings pitching perfect softball with no hits or walks. McLendon pitched the fifth inning and allowed just one hit.
Perez brought in the first run of the game in the first inning on a double to left field and then Hollingshead walked with the bases loaded for the 2-0 lead. It was the second inning the opened up the game for ETBU as nine runs were scored. Perez made it 3-0 as Vasquez scored from third and then Katy Hill came in on a throwing error for the 4-0 lead. Padilla singled in Perez for the fifth run and then Hollingshead followed with a two-RBI single making it 7-0. Vasquez then recorded her two RBI with a double to left center field as both Hollingshead and Bowden scored. Lewis picked up two RBI with a single up the middle bringing in Vasquez and Hill for the 11-run advantage. Irlbeck rounded out the scoring with a single to left center field as Bowden was the final run of the game, 12-0.
Game 2: ETBU 8, Sul Ross State 0 (five Innings)
The nightcap resulted in another five-inning, run-rule win for ETBU. Lewis batted 2-for-3, scored twice and stole three bases. Lindsey added a solo home run and also walked once. In the circle again for ETBU, Tello (16-2) pitched a five-inning, two-hit shutout.
Lewis brought in the first run in the first inning and then Lindsey grounded out in to finish the scoring in the first inning. In the second inning, Hollingshead came in on a throwing error and then Lewis earned her second RBI with a deep single to second base. The third inning brought Lindsey's 41st career home run on a solo shot to dead center field for the 5-0 lead. Vasquez and Lewis then both scored in the fourth inning on errors making it 7-0. Ending the game in the bottom of the fifth, Vasquez singled to left center field as Lexi Meadows touched home plate for the final run.
ETBU and Sul Ross State will complete the three-game series on Saturday with a single game at noon. ETBU will acknowledge and honor its four seniors.
