Box Score MARSHALL, Texas – Going out in style on senior day, the No. 13-ranked East Texas Baptist University softball team completed the shutout sweep of Sul Ross State University, 8-0, on Saturday afternoon at Taylor Field. Prior to first pitch, ETBU recognized four seniors: Jessica Bowden, Kelly Jo McLendon, JJ Mitchell and Alexis Padilla.
In the bottom half of the first inning, ETBU got on the board courtesy of a Lacey Lindsey sacrifice fly that scored Lindsey Vasquez for a 1-0 lead. Two innings later, Linzie Lewis plated Vasquez with another sacrifice fly to make it a 2-0 game. ETBU then scored a half dozen times in the sixth for the six-inning, run-rule victory. Padilla had a run-scoring groundout, Vasquez walked with the bases loaded and Lewis and Jayme Perez later added RBI singles.
In the circle, McLendon tossed a three-hit shutout. She pitched six innings and struck out five. Both Lindsey and Vasquez led ETBU with two hits each.
ETBU concludes its regular-season schedule with a road trip to Abilene, Texas, playing Hardin-Simmons University beginning on April 22 at 1 p.m.
