TYLER, Texas – Continuing to make post season history, the East Texas Baptist University women's tennis team advances to their first-ever American Southwest Conference championship match after a 5-1 victory over Hardin-Simmons University. ETBU won two matches in doubles and three in singles to take the win.
In doubles, Kayla Casey and Kate Bramlett won the first point with an 8-0 victory over Hannah Smith and Jenna Smith. Sierra Pizzarro and Jabree McClaine made it 2-0 with an 8-0 blanking in #3 doubles over Jasmine Briant and Laura Weinheimer. Tiffany Stankiewicz and Liz Morton fell at #2 doubles, 9-7, in the closest match of the day.
Moving to singles play, Bramlett made it 3-1 with a 6-3, 6-4, win over Shayne Cook in a regionally ranked match. Mullika Seekhieo defeated Kacie Berutti, 6-0, 6-1, for the fourth point and then Stankiewicz won the match point, 6-2, 7-5, over Michaela Ellison. The win gave ETBU their 14th win of the year.
ETBU will now play on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. against the winner of the Texsas-Tyler/Texas Dallas match for the ASC Championship.
