Box Score TYLER, Texas – It took only one inning to change the momentum of the game as #3 University of Texas-Tyler came from behind to take the game away from #8 East Texas Baptist University, 8-6. UTT scored eight runs in the fifth inning after being down 5-0 and then held off a late ETBU rally. ETBU will now have to play through the elimination bracket and faces #5 Texas Lutheran University at 5:35 p.m.
Lacey Lindsey led ETBU with three RBI as she had a home run as her only hit. Lindsey Vasquez, Linzie Lewis, and Jessica Bowden all had two hits. Alexis Padilla added two RBI while Lewis had one. Kelly Jo McLendon went 4.2 innings to take the loss with two strikeouts. Rocki Tello finished the final 2.1 and recorded two strikeouts with no hits or runs.
ETBU struck early in the first inning on Lindsey's 12th home run of the year making it, 3-0. In the third inning Padilla doubled to left field as Bowden came in for the 4-0 lead. Lewis made it 5-0 in the fourth inning on a single to left field as Katy Hill scored. In the fifth inning, UTT scored eight runs with two outs to take the lead for good, 8-5.
In the bottom of the seventh inning, ETBU tried to rally but fell short. Padilla hit a sacrifice fly as Mackenzie Cain came in but ETBU couldn't find any other runs to finish off the game.
ETBU will now play an elimination game at 5:35 p.m. against #5 Texas Lutheran.
