Box Score LONGVIEW, Texas – A rough second half took its toll on the East Texas Baptist University women's basketball team as they dropped a 70-50 decision to LeTourneau University. The loss drops ETBU to 3-15 overall and 1-9 in conference play.
ETBU started off tremendously as they jumped up to a four point lead on two occasions at 6-2 and 10-6. During the start, Kaitlyn Packett and Sade Murrell contributed multiple points for the lead. LETU then went on a 8-0 run to end the first quarter leading 14-10. The momentum continued in the second quarter as LETU took an eight point lead at 18-10. Baskets by Jhaenniece Rasberry and Brittney Jones cut the lead to 18-16. LETU then went on a 6-2 run to take the lead 24-18. ETBU would answer with baskets by Murrell and Amanda Wilson as ETBU went to the locker room down 24-22 at the half.
The Yellow Jackets started the second half with a bang as they went on a 10-0 run to begin the third quarter before ETBU could score. ETBU would get as close as five points in the third quarter with 4:01 to go. This would be the closest they would get to before LETU finished with an 8-0 run to end the quarter leading 44-31. The fourth quarter was pretty tight throughout most although LETU scored 23 points while ETBU tallied 19 points. The closest ETBU got to was 46-33 before LETU ran off with the win.
ETBU was led by Murrell, who tallied 13 points. Jones and Wilson each tallied 10 points while Wilson also added 10 rebounds to collect a double-double. LETU was led by Crystal Jones, who scored 22 points while LaTanya Drakes grabbed a double-double with 16 points and 24 rebounds. Collectively LETU outshot ETBU in every category including field goal percentage (29.3%-29.0%), three-point field goals (20%-6.3%), and free throw percentage (82.1%-52.9%).
ETBU finishes out the fourth of a four-game road trip as they traveled to Tyler to take on UT-Tyler. The tip-off starts at 1:00 PM.
