MARSHALL, Texas – Hot shooting from Ornelas Gym on a very cold day in East Texas led to the East Texas Baptist University men's basketball team earning a win over rival Louisiana College 79-67, in American Southwest Conference East Division play. ETBU shot 64 percent overall as they won their sixth straight game improving to 10-3 overall and 3-3 in ASC East play.

Louisiana College came out firing, taking a 10-7 lead into the first media timeout. Chris Barrett would take a rebound a go coast-to-coast and tied the game at 14, before knocking down a free throw and another layup to give ETBU their first lead of the game at 17-14. ETBU and LC would trade three point field goals throughout the remainder of the first half, as ETBU took a 43-34 lead into halftime.

LC would start off with the first two baskets of the second half to cut into the ETBU lead, but five points was as close as LC would get. ETBU would use two separate runs during the middle of the second half to stretch the lead to double-digits.

ETBU was led by Christ Barrett who recorded his first collegiate double-double, adding 12 points and 10 rebounds. Will Thomas led ETBU with 14 points and added seven rebounds. Jordan Quillian, Jordan Gosey, and Tyler Day each had 10 points. Gosey added seven rebounds as well. Quillian led ETBU with four assists.

ETBU shot 64.4% from the floor in the contest, 43.8% from behind the arc, and 60.9% from the free throw line. ETBU outrebounded LC 41-20 in the game, and had 14 assists as a team.

LC was led by Raheem Regis who recorded a double-double as well. Scoring 16 points and pulled down 10 rebounds. LC shot 39.7% from the floor and 33.3% from behind the arc.

Head coach Brandon Curran after the game, "I thought the guys really battled and fought. We talked a lot before the game that the team that would be successful is the team that brings the most energy. We knew would take a great shot from Louisiana College. We got off to a shaky start, I thought Louisiana College punched us in the mouth, and I thought we rebounded well and bounced back. We built a double-digit lead and was proud of how the team responded."

ETBU will return to action next Wednesday as they travel to the Central Texas area to take on the University of Mary-Hardin Baylor for an ASC showdown. The game will tipoff after the women's game at around 7:30 p.m.
