#TIGERSWIN: @ETBU_WS Upsets Texas Tyler

It is ETBU's first win over UTT since 2013.

TYLER, Texas - Avenging last season's two losses to the University of Texas-Tyler, the East Texas Baptist women's soccer team struck first on Kristi Freund's goal and hung on for the remaining 81 minutes to take a 1-0 American Southwest Conference win. The win puts ETBU at 9-4-1 overall and 4-2-1 in the ASC which is fourth place. This win marks the sixth win against UTT overall, but it also marks the first time since 2013 that ETBU has defeated the Patriots.

The beginning of the game saw ETBU fire the first shot seven minutes in before UTT started to apply pressure. For the next thirty minutes, UTT outshot the Tigers 7-1, but were unable to capitalize. Nearly thirty-seven minutes in, Freund struck a ball from 25 yards out that skipped through the defense and went into the net to give ETBU a 1-0 lead. UTT did come close to equalizing when Danielle Lancaster's shot hit the crossbar. But ETBU escaped to halftime up by one.

In the second half, ETBU had a couple of good chances to extend the lead but they couldn't convert. There were a couple momentum swings for UTT in which they had chances to equalize but they did not convert. Four shots were fired from the Patriots, including one that hit the post as ETBU was able to hang on for the win.

UTT's multiple chances won them the shooting battle with a 13-7 edge. They also managed to get eight corner kicks to four from ETBU. But the Tigers won the shots on goal battle with a 4-2 win. Hannah Murin was ETBU's top shooter with four shots and two goals overall. In goal, Claire Montondon picked up a clean sheet with two saves for ETBU. For the Patriots, Vanessa Rengal had three shots in total while both Kaelyn Steitz and Kaycee West had one shot on goal each. Emily Hurley made three saves in the game.

ETBU will head out to Clarksville, Arkansas, for their next game against Ozarks on Saturday, October 14. Kickoff begins at 1:00 PM.
