LONGVIEW, Texas – Opening up with a dominating set over LeTourneau University, the East Texas Baptist University volleyball team swept the Yellowjackets, 3-0 (25-9, 25-19, 25-18), for their 10
th win of the year and to take the series. ETBU has now won two straight matches and are 6-7 in the ASC East Division.
ETBU hit .303 in the match with 48 kills as
Paige Miller led the way with 13 kills.
Allison Sevening had nine kills and
Abby Weaver seven kills.
Elyse Shaw added 19 assists while
Meredith Augsburger had 17 assists.
Karina Lay posted 19 digs.
Starting out with a 25-9 win in set one, ETBU didn't look back. ETBU took a 7-1 lead to start the set with two kills by
Natalie Coburn and a one by Sevening with a service ace by Shaw. LETU added one point to make it 7-2 before ETBU went on an 14-2 run to make it 21-4. ETBU had 12 kills on the run spread out from Miller, Sevening,
Lizeth Flores, and Weaver. Shaw's second service ace made it 24-8 and then an attack error by LETU finished off the scoring for a 25-9 set one win for ETBU hitting over .500.
ETBU led all the way through set two but LETU was right there trying to take the lead. ETBU had a 10-6 lead on a
Bailey Byas kill only to see LETU score the next three points to pull within one, 10-9. ETBU scored five out of the next six points for a 15-10 lead with a kill by Shaw for the 15
th point. LETU came no closer than five points the rest of the set as ETBU won, 25-19.
Shaw gave ETBU a 3-0 lead in set three starting off with two service aces and a LETU attack error. ETBU extended their lead to 7-2 on a Miller kill and took a 10-4 lead on another LETU error. LETU would pull within four, three different times, but ETBU held onto the lead and the victory, 25-18.
ETBU will travel to Pineville, La., to face Louisiana College on Friday at 7 p.m.
