MARSHALL, Texas – Thanks to a hat trick performance and brilliant defense, the East Texas Baptist University women's soccer team picked up their fifth win in a row with a 4-0 shutout over the Louisiana College Wildcats in American Southwest Conference play. This puts ETBU at 11-4-1 and 6-2-1 in the ASC. ETBU has now only allowed two goals in the last five matches and recorded their sixth shutout of the year.
The night belonged to
Hannah Murin as she collected the hat trick while picking up an assist. She had goals in the 11
th, 56
th, and 62
nd minutes of the game.
From the start, it was clear ETBU had the edge as they kept possession of the ball for most of the first half. It wasn't until the 11
th minute when Murin scored on the assist from
Heather Brady just inside the box. Three minutes later,
Ashleigh Rondon tipped a shot past the keeper on the assist by Murin and
Emilee Laxson as ETBU went up 2-0. ETBU was able to continue their strong offensive attack and holding LC to just one offensive attack the rest of the half.
Ten minutes into the second half, Murin picked up her second goal on another assist from Brady to make it 3-0 (56
th minute). But she was not done yet as she scored a hat trick on the assist from
Kristi Freund in the 62
nd minute. For the rest of the game, LC did get multiple chances to score but ETBU played tough defensively as they held on for their sixth clean sheet of the season.
Outshooting LC 23-5, ETBU also led with 12 shots on goal and 10 corner kicks.
Kalynn Hudman led the team with six shots overall and four on net while Murin added five total shots to go with her three goals.
Karrigan Falber finished the game with five saves. Jaime Trahan led the Wildcats with two shots in all while goalkeeper Haley Clark finished with eight saves.
ETBU is back in action on Saturday at 12:00 p.m. hosting Belhaven University. It will also be senior day as four seniors will be honored.
