RICHARDSON, Texas
– East Texas Baptist Universities seven match winning streak came to an end as they fell to the University of Texas-Dallas 1-0 on Saturday evening. ETBU will finish the year with an overall record of 13-5-1, along with an 8-3-1 record in the American Southwest Conference. The Tigers currently have the fourth seed in the ASC and will host a playoff match on Tuesday, Oct. 31.
The Comets fired off three shots on goal within the first sixteen minutes of the opening half. ETBU finally had a good look at the net with a shot by Kristi Friend that ended up going just wide of the net.
Ashleigh Rondon responded with another shot for the Tigers, trying to convert off of a header that landed wide right of the goal. The first half would end with neither team recording a goal in the first 45 minutes of play. UTD outshot ETBU in the first half, attempting 13 shots, with the Tigers only attempting three on goal. ETBU managed six saves to zero by the Comets.
The second half would be yet another defensive battle between both teams. The Comets recorded the only goal of the match at the 83:33 mark. Nique Enloe gave the home team a 1-0 lead with 6:27 to go in the contest. The Tigers took two more shots but were unable to convert them to goals, as the Comets come away with the 1-0 win.
ETBU will now host an ASC Tournament first-round match on Tuesday, October 31
st.
