#TIGERSWIN: @ETBU_Volleyball Sweeps LETU

ETBU has now won three of their last four matches in sweeps.

MARSHALL, Texas – Earning their fifth sweep of the year and third in the last four matches, the East Texas Baptist University volleyball team took care of rival LeTourneau University in three sets, 25-23, 25-16, 25-20. ETBU now evens their record in American Southwest Conference East Division at 4-4 and are 8-12 overall.

Leading ETBU was Meredith Augsburger, who had a double-double with a team-leading 16 assists and 12 digs while Gabrielle Guy had 17 digs and Karina Lay added 16. The kill leaders for ETBU were Miller, who collected nine kills while Allison Sevening had eight and Byas collected seven. Elyse Shaw ahd 15 assists and 10 digs for a double-double, too. Elyse Wright led LETU with eight kills. Cam Taylor was the top assist leader with 11 while Liz Williams had 17 digs.

Set one was a tight one all the way as neither team possessed a lead of more than three points. ETBU started off with a 3-1 lead before LETU ran off four straight points. ETBU would rally to even up and the two teams exchanged points thereafter. For much of the set, LETU would hang on to a two point lead before leading 14-11, which would be the largest lead of their first set. ETBU then went on a 7-1 run to gain a three-point edge, 18-15, only to have LETU tie it at 23. ETBU would get critical kills by Miller and Alexis Contos to win 25-23.

LETU would take a 2-1 lead in set two starting off. But errors by the Yellow Jackets and a Miller kill gave ETBU a lead they would never relinquish. ETBU would charge out to leads of 8-3, 10-4, and 14-8. The closest LETU came was four points at 17-13. But the Tigers would finish with an 8-3 run to win 25-16.

ETBU and LETU traded points beginning in set three until it was tied at six all. ETBU would go on a 9-3 run to lead 15-10 and that would prove to be the difference. LETU did cut the deficit to two points at 17-15 and 19-17 but kills by Lizbeth Flores, Bailey Byas, and Miller sealed the deal as ETBU ran off with a 25-20 win.

ETBU resumes play this Thursday when they travel to Tyler, Texas, to take on #5 Southwestern University in a neutral game. The game starts at 3:00 PM.
