TYLER, Texas - Facing No. 5 ranked Southwestern University for the third time this year, the East Texas Baptist University volleyball team pushed the Pirates but fell, 3-0. ETBU played the match at Texas Tyler and is now 8-13 on the year.
Set one proved to be all Pirates in the early going. The team jumped out to an 8-3 lead until three consecutive points sparked by a kill by
Paige Miller brought the team to within two at 8-6. Southwestern responded with three straight points of their own and outscored the Tigers 17-6 to take the first set 25-12.
The second set was a battle as ETBU tied the game at 9-9 off of another kill by Miller. The Pirates rattled off six straight points to go on top 15-9, and never looked back winning the second set 25-19.
The Tigers mounted a comeback in the third set, drawing to within two points (9-7) before Southwestern outscored the blue and gold 16-10 to claim the 25-17 win.
ETBU notched 28 kills and 53 digs in the match.
Allison Sevening led the team with seven kills while
Elyse Shaw manned the offense with 13 assists.
The Tigers will travel to Richardson, Texas, to take on the Texas Dallas on Tuesday, October 10, at 7:00 p.m. Â
