MARSHALL, Texas- Explosive plays and stifling defense was on full display for the East Texas Baptist University women's soccer team on Saturday evening. The blue and gold used back-to-back goals at the end of the first half to hold off American Southwest Conference rival LeTourneau University 2-1. The Tigers will improve to 8-4-1 overall and 3-2-1 in ASC play after Saturday's big victory.
Neither team could latch on to any momentum in the early moments of the match. The Yellowjackets out shot ETBU for much of the first half until a goal headed in by
Ashleigh Rondon off of a great set up by Kibrianna Bonner gave the home team the much-needed 1-0 advantage at the 43:38 mark of the game. The Tigers responded just moments later with another goal by
Hannah Murin to put the home team on top 2-0 heading into halftime.
ETBU out shot LeTourneau six to five in the first 45 minutes of play, with three of those shots coming on goal. The Tigers also benefited from five corner kicks in the first half.
Despite surrendering a goal at the 76:52 point of the contest, ETBU would hold off LeTourneau 2-1 en route to collecting their second straight win. The team now sits at 8-4-1 overall and 3-2-1 in ASC matches this season.
Murin led the team with four shots in the game, two of them coming on goal. Rondon added two shots in the home win.
Claire Montondon collected five saves to man the defensive effort for the Tigers.
ETBU will take on the University of Texas-Tyler Patriots on the road on Thursday, Oct. 12.
