RICHARDSON, Texas – Taking on their third regionally ranked team, the East Texas Baptist University women's tennis team routed the University of Texas at Dallas, 8-1. ETBU is ranked 10th regionally and UTD is 19th.
Starting off doubles play, ETBU swept through matches no. 1, 2, and 3. Kate Bramlett and Kaliegh Smith defeated Kathy Joseph and Sophie Farmer, 9-7. Tiffany Stankiewicz and Elisa Kendall took the no. 2 match, 8-1, over Sumvruta LIyengar and Simmone Spielman. Kellie Cawthon and Ashley Schenck then defeated Elizabeth Labra and Justine Borchard, 8-2.
Bramlett had the biggest upset of the day at no. 1 singles take nationally ranked no. 9 Joseph, 6-2, 1-6, 10-8. ETBU then won singles matches at no. 3, 4, 5, and 6. Kendall won the no. 3 singles, 2-6, 6-2, 11-9, over Farmer and then Mullika Seekhieo took the no. 4 match, 2-6, 7-5, 10-6. Cawthon won the no. 5 match, 6-0, 6-2, vs. Michaela Gulasy and Jabree McClaine finished off the match with a 6-3, 6-2, win at no. 6 over Kelly Reed.
ETBU will next be at home on Friday, February 17th, vs. Millsaps College at 2:00 p.m.
