#TIGERSWIN: ETBU Dominates First Day vs. UMHB

BELTON, Texas – Sweeping the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor on the first day of the series, the #4 East Texas Baptist University softball team started their weekend on the right foot with scores of 5-3 and 11-6 over the Crusaders. ETBU improves to 10-0 overall and 5-0 in American Southwest Conference action. UMHB falls to 9-4 overall and 4-4 in ASC play.

GAME 1

In the first inning after two walked batters, Lacey Lindsey launched a ball over the centerfield wall for her first homerun of the season to give ETBU an early 3-0 lead. UMHB got a run back in the bottom of the first with a RBI double from Leah Brown. It would remain 3-1 until the bottom of the fifth inning when UMHB tallied one run. ETBU would get that run back on a Jayme Perez homerun in the top of the sixth inning. Myranda Hinojosa hit a homerun in the bottom of the sixth inning, and ETBU closed out scoring with one run in the top of the seventh inning to secure the win.

Lindsey Vasquez had two hits to lead ETBU, and Lindsey had three RBI's to pace the offense. Rocki Tello earned her sixth win of the season to move to 6-0. Tello pitched 6.0 innings, allowing five hits and two earned runs. Perez came in to pitch the seventh inning and recorded her first save of the season.

UMHB was led by Kasi Cummings with two hits. UMHB had seven walks in the contest. Hinojosa and Brown picked up the two RBI's in the loss.

GAME 2

The ETBU offense exploded for 11 runs and 14 hits in game two of the double header against UMHB. Perez knocked her second homerun of the day to give ETBU another early 3-0 lead. ETBU would score four more runs in the top of the third inning to stretch the lead over the Crusaders 7-0. ETBU responded with one run in the bottom half of the inning. Lacey Lindsey hit her second homerun of the day to spark another ETBU rally in the top of the fourth inning. UMHB would score five runs over the last three innings, but were not enough for a comeback as ETBU controlled the second game.

Lindsey and Vasquez each had three hits in the slugfest. Taylor Sieber added two hits, and six other Tigers recorded a hit in the win. Perez led the offense with two RBI's, and also picked up her third win in the circle this season. Perez pitched all seven innings, allowing three earned runs and giving up 10 hits.

UMHB was led by Devon Walter, Hinojosa, and Linsey Tomlinson who each had two hits. Makenzi Dawson, Leah Brown, Karley Free, and Kourtney Cummings each had one hit apiece. Karen Tennis was tagged with the loss as she tossed 3.2 innings and allowed nine hits and nine runs, three which were earned.

ETBU and UMHB will conclude the series with a one-game finale on Saturday at 12:00 p.m.
