Box Score BELTON, Texas – For the third consecutive weekend, the #4 East Texas Baptist University softball team swept a three-game series as they took all three games from the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor, 18-11. ETBU improves to 11-0 overall this season, and 6-0 in American Southwest Conference play while UMHB falls to 9-5 this season and 4-5 in ASC play.
ETBU and UMHB had a slugfest of a rubber match as they combined for 29 runs and 29 hits in the final game of the series. Lacey Lindsey hit her third homerun of the series to give ETBU an early 3-0 lead. Cori Drake hit a three run homerun to tie the game in the bottom of the second inning. ETBU used four runs in the top of the third inning to retake the lead 7-3.
UMHB responded with two in the bottom half of the inning, but ETBU responded with two more runs in the fourth inning. UMHB got three runs back in the bottom of the fifth inning on a Karley Free single to bring the score to 9-8. Katy Hill walked home a run, and Gabby Gonzales delivered a grand slam to make the score to 14-8. Drake hit a two run homerun in the bottom of the sixth inning to bring the score within four runs. Lindsey Vasquez tripled home a run and scored on an error to give ETBU a 16-10 lead. ETBU added two more on top of that in the seventh inning for an 18-10 lead. UMHB did bring in one run in their final at-bat making it 18-11.
Gabby Gonzales had a career day, driving home eight runs for ETBU going 3-of-5 wiht a double and home run. Jamey Perez and Lindsey each had three hits. Kaitlyn Hollingshead, Vaquez, and Linzie Lewis al lhad two hits. Lindsey hit her third homerun of the series, and Lewis launched her second homerun of the season. Perez had three RBI's and Lindsey had two RBI's on the day.
Rocki Tello started the game and pitched 1.1 and allowed three runs on three hits. Jordan Anderson earned the win in relief, throwing 5.2 innings, and allowing nine hits and seven runs, striking out four UMHB batters.
Makenzie Dawson, Free, and Drake each had three hits on the day. Drake finished with six RBI's and Free and Dawson each had two RBI's. Haley Parker was tagged with her second loss of the season, pitching 3.1 innings and allowing 10 runs (nine earned) on eight hits.
ETBU will return to action next weekend with a three–game home series against Howard Payne University. ETBU will begin an eight-game home stand over eight days starting next Friday.
