#TIGERSWIN: ETBU Sweeps DH Against DePauw

MARSHALL, Texas – It was a battle of the Tigers as the East Texas Baptist University softball team hosted DePauw University for a double header at Taylor Field. ETBU swept DePauw with scores of 2-1 and 6-2.

GAME 1

ETBU used a strong start from Rocki Tello, and had stellar defensive plays in the first game of the double header against DePauw. ETBU got on the board in the first inning on a sacrifice fly from Jayme Perez scoring Lindsey Vasquez. DePauw answered with a run in the top of the second inning, but ETBU quickly retook the lead back 2-1 on a Kaitlyn Hollingshead double. Tello would work out a few jams, leading to Perez earning the one out save to close out the ballgame.

Hollngshead led the way with two hits and one run batted in. Vasquez, Perez, Lacey Lindsey, Gabby Gonzales, Shelby Irlbeck, and Sabrina Salts each had one hit in the game. Tello earned her eighth win of the season (8-1) pitching 6.2 innings and allowing one run on seven hits and struck out four batters. Perez needed only three pitches to earn her second save of the season.

DePauw was led by Lauren Godden and Abey Bass who each had two hits in the game. Only three other DePauw Tigers reached base on a hit. Brooke Bandy was given the loss, pitching four innings and allowing two runs on seven hits. Emma Baldwin pitched two scoreless innings in relief.

GAME 2

ETBU again scored first, scoring on a sacrifice fly from Lindsey. Perez launched her seventh homerun of the season to give ETBU a 2-0 lead after three innings. DePauw used back-to-back singles to tie the game at 2-2 in the fourth inning. ETBU used an RBI single from Gonzales and an RBI double from Salts to give ETBU a 4-2 lead in the fifth inning. Linzie Lewis singled home an insurance run to give ETBU a 5-2 lead. Gonzales added another RBI on a sacrifice fly, extending the ETBU lead to four runs.

ETBU was led by Vasquez, Lewis, Perez, and Gonzales with two hits each. Salts and Taylor Sieber each had one hit. Gonzales had two runs batted in, followed by Lewis, Perez, Lindsey, and Salts with one RBI each. Jordan Anderson pitched all seven innings, allowing two runs on eight hits. Anderson picked up her fifth win of the season to move to 5-0.

DePauw was led by Megan Montgomery, Gabby Smart, and Sidney Holler with two hits each. Devin Piper was tagged with the loss, moving to 1-1. Piper allowed four runs in three innings in relief.

ETBU improves to 17-2 overall this season, and DePauw drops to 1-5 to begin their season. ETBU will return to action with American Southwest Conference action next weekend as they travel to UT Dallas for a three-game series.
