MARSHALL, Texas – The East Texas Baptist University swept the series opening double header against Concordia University thanks in part to stellar pitching and timely hitting. ETBU won game one 9-0, and won game two 8-0, both in five innings. ETBU is now 20-4 overall and 13-4 in American Southwest Conference play. Concordia falls to 13-14 overall and 6-11 in ASC play.

GAME 1

ETBU would control the game from the start with two runs in the bottom of the first inning. Lacey Lindsey hit a sacrifice fly, and Gabby Gonzales singled home a run give ETBU a 2-0 lead. Lindsey Vasquez and Linzie Lewis used back-to-back hits to give ETBU a 4-0 lead after two innings. Jayme Perez double home two runs in the bottom of the fourth, followed by an RBI fielder's choice from Lindsey. Heaven McDonald would score on an error from Concordia, and Katy Hill would single home the final run to give ETBU a 9-0 lead after four innings.

The story of the game was in the circle for ETBU. Jordan Anderson recorded her first perfect game in a Tiger jersey. Anderson sat down all 15 Tornado batters that came up to the plate, striking out 10 of those batters. Anderson moves to 7-1 overall this season after picking up the win.

Perez led the way offensively with three hits, followed by Lewis and Hill with two hits each. Perez and Lindsey each finished with two RBI each. ETBU finished with 11 hits as a team. Lewis finished with two stolen bases in the contest.

Game 2

ETBU jump started game two with a bang, scoring three runs in the bottom half of the first inning. Vasquez scored the first run on a wild pitch, followed by a two-run homerun for Lindsey to give ETBU a 3-0 lead. Lewis singled home a run in the bottom of the second, giving the Tigers a 4-0 lead. Trina Deyo brought home a run in the bottom of the third extending the ETBU lead to 5-0. Lewis brought home another run in the bottom of the fourth followed by a sacrifice fly from Perez. Hollingshead would end the game in the fifth inning on a walk-off RBI double.

Lewis finished with three hits in the game, followed by Vasquez, Lindsey, and Hollingshead with two hits each. Both Lewis and Lindsey each had two RBI, and three other Tigers recorded an RBI. Lindsey launched the 50^th homerun of her career in the bottom of the first inning.

Rocki Tello was almost able to duplicate Anderson's perfect game, but allowed a hit in her fourth inning of work. Tello was still able to complete the shutout, pitching 5.0 innings and allowed two hits. Tello is now 9-2 on the season after the win today.

Emma Martino and Haley Dennett each picked up one hits for Concordia. Shelby Burrus and Kati Turner each picked up one loss in the circle for the Tornados. Burrus pitched 3.1 innings and allowed seven earned runs on 10 hits. Turner pitched 3.0 innings and allowed seven runs on 10 hits.

ETBU and Concordia will conclude the series at 1:00 p.m. tomorrow at Taylor Field.
