Box Score 2 CLARKSVILLE, Arkansas – On day one in Arkansas, the East Texas Baptist University softball team dominated the University of the Ozarks en route to a double header sweep. ETBU moves to 23-6 overall this season, and improves to 15 in American Southwest Conference play. Ozarks falls to 6-21 this season, and 4-19 in ASC play.
GAME 1
ETBU got on the board early and often in the top of the first inning scoring four runs. Jayme Perez doubled home Lindsey Vasquez to give the Tigers a 1-0 lead. Kaitlyn Hollingshead ripped a three-run homerun to left field, scoring Perez and Lacey Lindsey. Perez singled home Brea Robinson in the second inning, and Gabby Gonzales brought home Katy Hill on a double in the third inning to extend the ETBU lead to 6-0. Linzie Lewis scampered home on an Ozarks error to cap off the scoring at 7-0.
Rocki Tello was outstanding in the circle for ETBU as she earned her 10th win of the season to move to 10-3 overall. Tello pitched all 7.0 innings, allowing only two hits and striking out three batters. Perez and Lindsey each had two hits in the win, with Perez picking up two RBI. Hollingshead lead ETBU with three RBI, and Gonzales picked up the other RBI for the ETUB offense. Hollingshead picked up her 100th career RBI with her three-run homerun in the top of the first inning.
Hannah Oler and Cheyanna Miller had the two hits for the Eagle offense. Oler was tagged with the loss in the circle, pitching 7.0 and allowing 10 hits and five earned runs.
GAME 2
Perez again sparked the scoring in the top of the first inning, this time on a sacrifice fly to score Vasquez from third base. The game would remain 1-0 until the top of the sixth inning when Perez connected on her eighth homerun of the season, and 40th career homerun, giving the Tigers a 3-0 lead. Oler doubled home a run to bring Ozarks within two runs, 3-1, in the bottom of the seventh inning. Ozarks scored one more run on an ETBU error, but Jordan Anderson closed out the game with a strikeout to clinch the double header sweep.
ETBU had four hits in game two, three of them by Lewis (3-3) who had a triple and a run scored. Perez had the other hit for ETBU, and had all three RBI, making that five total on the day. Jordan Anderson earned the win, and had a no-hitter brewing until the seventh inning. Anderson pitching 7.0 innings and allowed one earned run on two hits and had six strikeouts on the day.
Katie Ventress picked up the loss, allowing three runs on four hits in 7.0 innings pitched. Ventress and Oler had the two hits for Ozarks in the loss. Oler had one double and one RBI for the Eagle offense.
ETBU and Ozarks will conclude the series with a single game at 12:00 p.m. tomorrow afternoon.
