Box Score CLARKSVILLE, Arkansas - The East Texas Baptist University softball team cruised to a three-game series sweep over the University of the Ozarks, winning the final game 8-1. ETBU moves to 24-6 overall and 16-5 in American Southwest Conference play. Ozarks drops to 6-22 overall, and 4-20 in ASC play.
ETBU jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Jayme Perez singled home Linzie Lewis to start the scoring. After a Lacey Lindsey double, Perez came in to score off a wild pitch, giving ETBU a 2-0 lead. Kaitlyn Hollingshead singled home Lindsey to cap off the scoring in the first inning. Lewis used an RBI fielder's choice to push the ETBU lead to 4-0.
Hannah Oler doubled home a run for Ozarks in the bottom of the fourth inning. ETBU tacked on four runs in the top of the sixth inning to put the game out of reach. Trina Deyo brought home Katy Hill on an RBI groundout. Vasquez doubled home two runs, giving the Tigers a 7-1 lead. Vasquez capped off the scoring for the game when she scored on a wild pitch, giving ETBU an 8-1 win.
Hill was the lone Tiger with a multi-hit game, going 2-3 in the game with two doubles. Vasquez and Lewis each had two RBI in the contest, with four other players tacking on one RBI each. Perez and Hollingshead combined for 10 RBI in the series. Vasquez is one stolen base away from 100 career stolen bases.
Jordan Anderson picked up her second win of the weekend, moving to 9-2 overall this season. Anderson pitched 7.0 innings, and allowed one run on three hits, striking out eight batters. The ETBU pitching staff limited Ozarks to seven hits in the three game series.
Oler, Brooke Hoffsommer, and Haley Hardy each had one hit in the contest. Oler had one RBI and one double, and Hoffsommer had one double as well. Oler was given the loss in the circle, allowing three runs on four hits in 2.0 innings pitched.
ETBU will return to action next weekend with a three-game home series against Louisiana College. ETBU and LC will play a single game on Friday at 6:00 p.m. ETBU will host its annual “Strike Out Cancer” game on Saturday with a double header against LC starting at 12:00 p.m.
