Box Score 2 MARSHALL, Texas – Taking advantage of two dominant pitching performances, the East Texas Baptist University softball team swept the doubleheader from Hardin-Simmons University winning by scores of 8-1 and 6-0. The wins give ETBU a 32-6 record overall and a 24-5 conference record and now have won their last 11 games. Hardin-Simmons meanwhile falls to 17-21 overall and 11-18 in conference play.
Game 1 – ETBU 8, Hardin-Simmons 1
ETBU would get four runs in the first inning that would prove to be the difference. An RBI groundout by Linzie Lewis gave ETBU a 1-0 lead. During the rally, Katy Hill was hit by pitch, which set a new school record for most hit by pitches in ETBU's program history. Gabby Gonzales followed it up with a two run double before Kaitlyn Hollingshead drove in the fourth run on a hit by pitch. Jayme Perez drove in a run in the second inning on a single scoring Lewis. ETBU added a run in the third on a double steal by Hollingshead and Brea Robinson, who scored the run.
The Cowgirls got one back in the fifth inning before McKenzie Cain would score on an error by the catcher. The final run came from Lacey Lindsey, who drove in Lewis to make the final score 8-1.
On the day, Perez and Gonzales led ETBU with two hits each with the latter leading everyone with three RBI. Pitching wise, Rocki Tello got her 12th win of the season going six innings allowing one run on six hits. McKayla Hendrix would finish the game allowing one hit in her one inning of work. For HSU, Alexis Vines and KeAmbria Hunter each got two hits while Ashley Brown got the only RBI. Taking the loss was Lexie Allen who lasted .2 of an inning giving up four runs on two hits. Genia Jones filled in the rest of the game going 5.1 allowing four runs on nine hits while walking four.
Game 2 – ETBU 6, Hardin-Simmons 0
After a scoreless first, ETBU would strike on the RBI single by Lindsey. One inning later, an RBI single by Morgan Arst and a two-run homer by Lewis game ETBU a 4-0 lead after three. In the fourth, Lindsey Vasquez singles in two more runs to give ETBU what would be the final score of 6-0.
Vasquez led the team with two hits and two RBI while Lewis also added two RBI herself. Jordan Anderson went the distance allowing one fourth-inning hit while striking out eight. Christa Garcia of HSU was the only player for the Cowgirls to get a hit. Lara Ammermann took the loss for HSU going six innings allowing six runs on eight hits while striking out one batter and walking two.
ETBU will complete their regular season tomorrow as they will host HSU at 12:00 PM at Taylor Field. It will also be senior day as ETBU will honor six seniors on their team.
