Box Score MARSHALL, Texas – It took just two throwing errors on the same play giving #13 East Texas Baptist University the runs they needed as they opened up the top 25 American Southwest Conference series, 2-1, over #25 Louisiana College (24-7; 18-4). ETBU now moves to 25-6 and 17-5 in the ASC.
In the bottom of the first inning, the Louisiana College catcher over threw third base when Lindsey Vasquez was stealing as she then advanced to home. On that same play Linzie Lewis was stealing second, went to third on the errant throw, and then was safe at home when they had another throwing error.
ETBU only had four hits in the game with two from Vasquez as she also stole four bases to tie the ETBU career record for steals at 103. Her first steal of the game in the first inning was her 100th career steal.
Jordan Anderson earned the win pitching the entire game recording four strikeouts and giving up just one earned run. At one point in the game, she retired nine straight batters.
In the top of the seventh inning, Louisiana College had the bases loaded with two outs trying to tie the game. Katy Hill's quick reaction at third base on a line drive foul ball ended the game as she grabbed the ball.
ETBU will host their StrikeOut Cancer Game and ETBU Alumni Game on Saturday starting at 12:00 p.m. in a double header vs. Louisiana College.
