LONGVIEW, Texas – Moving to 2-0 in the American Southwest Conference East Division, the East Texas Baptist University women's tennis team won their 14th match of the year with a 9-0 shutout win over LeTourneau University. With the 2-0 start, ETBU will be playing for first place tomorrow against Texas Tyler.
ETBU opened the match with a 3-0 lead in doubles play. Kate Bramlett and Kaleigh Smith (no.1 doubles) won the no.1 doubles match. That win was Bramlett's 100th career win at ETBU in singles and doubles combined. Elisa Kendall and Ashley Schenck (no.2 doubles) each won their match, 8-3, too. Mullika Seekhieo and Kellie Cawthon then won no.3 doubles, 8-0.
Sweeping through singles play, ETBU won all six matches. The closest match came at no.1 singles as LeTourneau's Hayley Hunter won four games in a 6-3, 6-1, loss to Bramlett. LETU only won six more games after that. Kendall then won the no.2 singles match 6-0, 6-1, followed by Smith's 6-1, 6-1, win at no.3. Seekhieo won the no.4 match, 6-1, 6-0, and Cawthon blanked Cherish Farmer, 6-0, 6-0, at no.5. Schenck finished out the match with a 6-2, 6-0, win at no.6 singles.
The ASC East Division lead is on the line on Saturday as ETBU faces Texas Tyler in Tyler, Texas.
