GEORGETOWN, Texas - In their final two matches of the Trinity University Invitational, the East Texas Baptist University women's volleyball team fell short in both games. ETBU lost to Trinity in four sets by scores of 25-19, 19-25, 15-25, and 16-25. Against Texas Lutheran, ETBU fell in four sets by scores of 25-23, 19-25, 16-25, 12-25.The losses drop ETBU to 5-8 overall.
Game 1: Trinity 3, ETBU 1
ETBU started the first set ahead and never looked back. Twice, ETBU had leads of five points with one of them reduced to three at 17-14. But after the Tigers led 20-15, ETBU finished Trinity with a set one win. Sets two through four saw Trinity take the lead early and never relinquishing it. Trinity had starts of 6-3 in set two, 6-0 in set three, and 7-5 in set four.
Allison Sevening and
Paige Miller both had nine kills to lead the team.
Elyse Shaw added 20 assists while
Karina Lay had 15 digs.
Game 2: Texas Lutheran 3, ETBU 1
Both teams traded points early before TLU had leads of three or four points on four different occasions. ETBU would soon rally to even the score at 20 and after a few more points exchanging, they managed to win the first set 25-23. Neither team had a grip early in set two until TLU built themselves an 11-7 lead. The momentum would continue on as they would escalate to a seven point lead twice before finishing with a 25-19 set two victory.
ETBU started set three with a flourish as they raced out to a 10-4 lead. But a 7-1 run by TLU even the score and both teams traded again. Eventually, TLU would secure control as they went from 14-14 to a 9-2 run ending with a 25-16 win. Both teams fought early in set four. The Bulldogs would then go a run and would reach 20 points before ETBU could reach 10. The final set was 25-12 in TLU's favor.
Allison Sevening led the way for ETBU with 13 kills while
Paige Miller had a double-double with 11 kills and digs each.
Meredith Augsburger was the top assist maker for ETBU with 13. For TLU, Makenzie Griffin had 16 kills while Kionasina Nu'u picked up 26 assists and Jaci Chambers added 28 digs.
ETBU will next play this Tuesday at Texas Tylear at 7 pm in ASC play.
