TYLER, Texas – In only their second American Southwest Conference match of the year, the East Texas Baptist University volleyball team came up short against the University of Texas Tyler, 3-0 (17-25, 22-25, 13-25). ETBU's 10-match win streak vs. the Patriots ended as it was Texas Tyler's first win over the Tigers since 2011. ETBU is now 5-9 on the year and 1-1 in the ASC.

ETBU did not hit well at all finishing with a 0.085 hitting percentage. Abby Weaver led the team with eight kills while Allison Sevening had seven. Elyse Shaw added 10 assists and Paige Miller recorded 13 digs. For UTT, Brieanne Brown posted 11 kills.

Jumping out to a 3-0 lead in set one, ETBU took the momentum early. UTT easily tied it at three but ETBU moved to an 8-5 lead on a Weaver kill. UTT responded with an 8-1 run for a 13-9 lead AS ETBU never recovered falling 25-17.

ETBU was down early in set two, 10-7, but rallied back to tie the set at 15 on a UTT attack error. That was part of a 7-1 run to put ETBU back on top, 20-16. It looked as if ETBU had the momentum going their way but UTT scored the next five points for a 21-20 lead. ETBU tied it at 21 on a service error by UTT but the Patriots took four of the next five points for the win, 25-22.

UTT took the momentum into set three as they easily won 25-13. The set was tied at 10 each when UTT went on a 9-0 run for the commanding 19-10 lead en route to the 12-point set win.

ETBU will travel to LeTourneau for four more matches this weekend in the American Southwest Conference.
