MARSHALL, TX- Gridlocked from start to finish in double overtime, the East Texas Baptist University women's soccer team ended with a 0-0 tie vs. the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor. With the tie, ETBU still has an unbeaten streak at four matches and are 4-2-1 on the year and 1-0-1 in the ASC.
The game was tightly contested from the opening kickoff, with neither team surrendering even an attempt at the goal for the first several minutes.
At the half, the score remained knotted at 0-0, with ETBU and UMHB having three shots a piece.
Neither team surrendered a goal in the second half, even with multiple attempts at a score in the final minutes of play by
Ashleigh Rondon. The scored was even at 0-0 heading into overtime.
The Crusaders had a chance in the first few minutes of the extra session to put points on the board, but several crucial saves by GK
Claire Montondon kept the visiting team out of the scoring column.
The teams needed another overtime session to try and break the scoring seal but it ultimately ended in a stalemate at 0-0.
Montondon led the defensive effort for the Tigers, snatching up six saves in the contest. Rondon and
Chase Swann led the effort in shot attempts with four and three respectively.
ETBU outshot UMHB nine to six in the matchup, with six of their nine shots coming on goal.
The Tigers will hit the road on Thursday, Sept. 21 for a conference battle with McMurry University. The game is set to kick-off at 5:00 p.m. from Abilene, TX.
