ABILENE, Texas – Moving their unbeaten streak to five matches, the East Texas Baptist University women's soccer was able to pick up a 1-0 victory over the War Hawks of McMurry. This is the second straight shutout for ETBU, who have managed to get their record to 5-2-1 and 2-0-1 in the American Southwest Conference.
McM started the game with three shots in the first 19 minutes. ETBU's defense would then hold McM to one shot for the remainder of the match taking control firing nine more shots. But it was in the 34
th minute when a costly penalty by McM that would be the difference as
Heather Brady would convert a penalty kick for the only goal of the game.
The second half was the same as the last 26 minutes of the first with ETBU piling up shot after shot. ETBU took eight shots but couldn't find the net. Still, ETBU's defense was able to hold down McM before the final buzzer sounded.
In all, ETBU had 17 total shots with 10 on goal. Brady led with four shots overall and three on net while
Ashleigh Rondon had three and
Chase Swann had two.
Claire Montondon was in goal for all 90 minutes where she made two saves. ETBU's defense now has not let a goal go by in 207 minutes. McM finished with four shots overall, which came from two shots each by Cristen Lumbreras and Angelica Navarro.
ETBU will finish their Abilene road trip with a showdown against Hardin-Simmons on Saturday at 2:00 p.m.
