TYLER, Texas – Following a successful ASC Fall Championships, the East Texas Baptist University women's tennis team had a good showing at the ITA Championships in Tyler. Several players played into day two of the tournament just missing advancing to the championship matches.
In singles play,
Kelly Lewis,
Tiffany Stankiewicz, and
Jabree McClaine each won a singles match in the first round. In A Draw Singles, Lewis defeated Sara Brickner of Trinity 6-3, 6-0, while Stankiewicz picked up a win against Chandler Morris (Austin College) 6-3, 6-4. McClaine went the furthest with two wins against Kara Miller (Schreiner) 6-4, 6-1 and Megan Ingram (Texas Lutheran) 6-3, 7-6 (8) in B Draw Singles.
In doubles play, Lewis teamed up with
Elisa Kendall to win their A Draw Doubles match against Michaela Ellison and Kyra Mobley (Hardin-Simmons) 9-8 (6). In B Draw Doubles, McClaine and Ashley Schenk went on a semifinals run with wins against Iris Montero/Samantha Sterling (Schreiner) 8-5, Francesca Canjar/Annie Wise (Trinity) 8-5 and Kelsey Doege/Grace Masonheimer (Hardin-Simmons) 8-4 before losing to Victoria Kniffen/Caitlyn Cox (UTT) 9-7.
