LONGVIEW, Texas- Winning eight of their last nine games, the East Texas Baptist University men's basketball team will put their conference record to the test as they make the short trip to Longview, Texas to take on American Southwest Conference rival LeTourneau University on Monday night. ETBU is currently 11-3 overall and 5-2 in ASC play coming into this week.
The Tigers will have a tall task ahead of them, as the team will be facing a Yellowjacket offense that averages 90.9 points per game this season. Entering the matchup, LETU is also unbeaten at home, sitting at 4-0 at the Solheim Center. In the overall season series, ETBU has dominated the matchup, going 44-15 in the first 59 meetings. The Tigers edged out the Yellowjackets 56-54 last season in Ornelas Gymnasium. Nate West leads LETU this season, averaging 17.9 points, 5.6 rebounds and 4.6 assists. LETU is 12-2 overall and sits at No. 1 in the ASC East with a 6-1 record in conference play.
As a team, ETBU is just about neck and neck with LETU, averaging 88.9 points per game on the year. The Tigers have connected on 46.1 percent from the field and shoot a scorching 40.2 percent from the three point line. Defensively, ETBU surrenders 42.4 percent from the floor and just 33.1 percent from the three point line, while also averaging 7.0 steals and 4.5 blocks. ETBU also boast a rebound margin of 4.9, while collecting a total of 44.3 rebounds per game. The Tigers dish out 16.2 assists and commit only 15.1 giveaways for the year.
Robby Dooley leads ETBU, averaging 17.5 points per game and shooting 51.4 percent from the floor.
Westin Riddick ranks second on the team in scoring, notching 13.2 points per game thus far. The freshman forward also shoots 43.3 percent from the field and 43.5 percent from downtown on the year.
Nathan Fontenot rounds out the top three in scoring this season, giving the Tigers 12 points on 48 percent shooting from the field and a blistering 49.3 percent from beyond the arc.
Jordan Gosey leads the effort on the glass, pulling down 6.8 rebounds per contest.
Landin Brown leads an all-around effort for ETBU with 9.3 points, 6.3 rebounds and 4.4 assists per game.
ETBU will tip-off Monday night's matchup against LETU at 7:30 p.m. from Longview, Texas.
