#TIGERSWIN: @ETBU_WS Shuts Out BU Netting Seven Goals

JACKSON, Mississippi - Thanks to three players scoring two goals each and a dominant defensive performance, the East Texas Baptist University women's soccer team used a seven-goal performance against the Belhaven University Blazers for an American Southwest Conference victory. ETBU's win puts them at 6-6-1 overall and 3-5-0 in the ASC.

ETBU had two goals each from Ashleigh Rondon (five shots), Brianna Mickshaw (two shots), and Daphne Hunt (two shots) while Raegan Kappler (three shots) had the seventh goal. Kappler also led ETBU with two assists while goalkeeper Maddie Rea preserved the shutout making four saves during the game. In all, ETBU outshot BU 14-8, including a 9-4 edge in shots on goal.

Erica Rempel would take a team-high three shots for BU while Lauren Smith and Emily Malcom had two shots each. In goal, Georgia Jordan saved two shots while conceding all seven of ETBU's goals.

The Blazers would get the first chance to score four minutes in as they would have a corner kick. ETBU's defense prevented that opportunity as it pushed the ball out of the box. Over the next twenty-three minutes, ETBU would compile four shots while holding BU to two. Then in a span of six minutes, the Tigers would strike for three goals. It started in the 27th minute when Mickshaw (26:43) would break through with a goal on an assist by Rondon for a 1-0 lead. Nearly three minutes later at 29:34, Mickshaw would capitalize on her second goal of the game. Kappler (32:54) would then make it 3-0 to complete the surge of goals. The Tigers would take this lead into halftime after putting up eight shots for the half.

Almost two minutes into the second half, Mickshaw would get her assist as Rondon would connect on a header goal and a 4-0 lead at 46:43. ETBU's defense would hold BU to one shot until the 70th minute while Hunt would score two consecutive goals (54:25, 61:22) to give the Tigers a 6-0 lead. Rondon (66:09) finished ETBU's scoring as the margin was up to 7-0. BU did have a scoring chance denied when one of their shots hit off the post. For the rest of the match, the brilliant goalkeeping of Rea prevented the Blazers from making any goals as the Tigers would walk off with the field with the win.

ETBU will hit the road next to Pineville, La., for a 12:00 p.m. game on Saturday against Louisiana College.
