#TIGERSWIN: @ETBU_Soccer Picks up 2-1 Win on the Road

CONWAY, Ark. – Taking a break from American Southwest Conference play, the East Texas Baptist University men's soccer team came away with the 2-1 victory over Hendrix College. With the regional win, ETBU improves to 5-4-1 on the season and drops HC to 4-7 on the year.  

Daniel Rutter and Juan Cairo scored the two goals for the Tigers. Cairo attempted five shots while Rutter had two on the night. Brett Rose led the way in total shot attempts with seven and only one shot coming right at the net. As a team, the Tigers commanded an aggressive offense, firing 28 total shots with a fourth of their attempts coming on goal. Defensively, ETBU held the Warriors to just three shots in the match.

Michael Andrews launched the game's first shot at the 5:30 mark of the contest, missing just wide of the goal. Just five minutes later, Cairo scored the first goal of the match with 10:39 on the clock, giving ETBU the 1-0 lead.

After several attempts at the net, Rutter cashed in on the game's second goal off of the assist by Levi Rogers, increasing the lead to 2-0 at the 19:49 mark of the opening half. The Tigers finished the first 45 minutes with a 2-0 lead, limiting HC to just two shots in the half.

ETBU kept the Warriors out of the net until the 88th minute of the contest. Cole Bolen had the answer off the connection by Safin Attwal to make the match 2-1.ETBU kept HC off the board for the remaining two minutes of the half for the 2-1 win.

ETBU will take the short trip to Longview, Texas, on Saturday, Oct. 6 for an ASC match with LeTourneau University at 7:00 p.m. from the LETU Soccer Field.
