RECAP: @ETBU_Soccer Comes Up Short against LETU

LONGVIEW, Texas – Making the short trip to Longview, Texas, the East Texas Baptist University men's soccer team was unable to rally from behind falling to LeTourneau University 3-1 on Saturday evening. With the loss, ETBU is now 5-5-1 overall and 2-3-1 in American Southwest Conference play.

Daniel Rutter scored the only goal for the Tigers putting up a total of five shots and two on goal. Silas Sangano led the team in shot attempts with six and three coming on goal. Bryant Botello anchored the ETBU defense, collecting four saves. As a team, ETBU attempted 13 shots, with five of those coming right on goal. Zachariah Malik, David Trost and Teddy Bogba each scored goals for the Yellow Jackets.

LETU opened the match scoring the first goal at the 5:30 mark, converting off of an assist by Alec Wier to make the game 1-0. ETBU attempted to get on the board at the 19th minute, but a shot by Rutter bounced high, keeping ETBU scoreless. LETU's Bogba then put in a shot in at the 39:07 mark of the opening half to increase the lead to 2-0.

ETBU would finish the first 45 minutes scoreless heading into halftime. The Tigers attempted just two shots in the first half, while LETU launched 10 shots. Botello had three saves.

ETBU would come out firing in the second half with two shots in the first six minutes with the third shot by Rutter finding its way into the back of the net cutting the score down to 2-1. LETU responded nine minutes later with a goal by Malik, bringing the score to 3-1 at the 60:57 mark of the match. The final attempt by Sangano would result in a save for ETBU in the last two minutes as LETU held onto the 3-1 lead.  

The Tigers will return home for a match against the University of the Ozarks on Thursday, Oct. 11, in an ASC contest at 7:30 p.m.
