#TIGERSWIN: @ETBU_WBSK Jams Johnson & Wales 89-56 for Fifth Straight Win

 
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Thanks to an 18-point effort by Kayla Bise, the East Texas Baptist University women's basketball team rout Johnson & Wales University, 89-56, to stay perfect on the young season. ETBU is now 5-0 overall and will put their perfect record to the test in a matchup against Colorado College for game two of the Colorado College Thanksgiving Classic.

 Bise led the offensive effort for ETBU, scoring her 18 points on six made three pointers in the matchup. Taylor Singleton stuffed the stat sheet with 12 points, eight assists, four rebounds and six steals, while Kendrick Clark chipped in 11 points on the game. ETBU shot 34-of-74 from the field (45.9%) and 12-of-31 (38.7%) from beyond the arc. Defensively, the Tigers forced 31 turnovers against the Wildcats, including 24 steals. ETBU also outrebounded JWU 47-40 on the glass. 
 
The Tigers were on the attack from the opening tip, with Valerie Matlock charging to the basket for a layup plus the foul (2-0) in the opening minute of the game. Amanda Wilson connected on a turnaround jumper off of a shovel pass by Anna Moss to go up 4-0 at the 9:06 mark. ETBU would lead 6-2 when a deep three pointer by Bise put the road team on top by seven (9-2) at the 7:10 mark of the 1stquarter. Singleton picked off a pass on the defensive end and raced down court for the floater to put her team on top by 11, 15-4, three minutes later. ETBU took its largest lead of the period, after a drop step by Erin Meeks plus the foul pushed the score to 28-9 to end the quarter. 
 
Meeks would again be involved in the Tigers' next scoring play, skipping a pass to Marissa Warren for a long-distance jumper, increasing the lead to 20 (31-11) in the opening minute of the second quarter. Scores by the Wildcats' Dominique Riley and Katey Guzman cut the Tiger lead to 14 (34-20) over the next two minutes. ETBU responded with 10-5 spurt, capped off by a driving layup plus the foul by Bianca Bowring to go back up 19, 44-25, with under two minutes to play in the half. Clark and Singleton scored the final four points of the half, entering the locker room with a 48-27 advantage. 
 
Inside scores by Wilson and Moss pushed the ETBU lead to 25, 52-27, in the opening minute of the second half. The Tigers led 53-30 over the next three minutes until back – to – back threes by Warren and Bise increased the lead to 29 (59-30). JWU scored five unanswered points but another three by Bise put the Tigers back on top by 27, 62-35, with 4:39 to play in the third. Clark swished home a three-point jumper and Singleton converted at the free throw line to go on top 71-43 at the end of the third quarter. 
 
The Wildcats tried to chip into the lead on several occasion in the fourth quarter, but a series of steals and scores by Matlock, Singleton and April Matthews would ice the ballgame, with ETBU earning the 89-56 road victory.
 
ETBU will close out the Colorado College Thanksgiving Classic with a meeting with Colorado College on Saturday, Nov. 24. The game is set to tip-off at 1:00 p.m. from Reid Arena.
