CLARKSVILLE, Arkansas - For the second time in five days, the East Texas Baptist University men's basketball team defeated the University of Ozarks Eagles. This time, ETBU would grind out a 93-78 victory to improve their record to 17-3 overall and 11-2 in conference play.
ETBU was led by
Robby Dooley, who once again, tied his career high with 23 points while collecting 11 rebounds to complete a double-double.
Nathan Fontenot tallied 18 points while
Westin Riddick had 16 points.
Landin Brown was one assist shy of a double-double to go with 10 points. For UO, Tim Turpin (15 points), Skyler Barnes (11 points), and Keon Jenkins (10 points) were the only Eagles' players to reach double-figures.
Collectively, ETBU made 47.2% from the field, 40.6% from downtown, and 63.2% from the free-throw line. They also out rebounded UO 51-38 while their 15 points off turnovers were more than the six made by UO.
Dooley started the game off with a three-pointer (18:49) to lead 3-0. At first, each team would exchange baskets to the point where UO would have their largest lead of the game at 9-6 (14:28). ETBU would then turn the tables around with a 18-2 run (14:03-8:42) to lead 24-12, which included a layup (13:34) and a three (10:32) by
Davis Robinson plus threes by Riddick (12:37) and Fontenot (12:13) and layups by
Alan Wilkinson (9:17) and
Darrice Whitley (8:42). ETBU would extend the lead to as large as sixteen on two occasions at 33-17 (4:51) on a Fontenot jumper and 35-19 on a layup by
Gavin Sabo (4:02). The closest UO would get to was within twelve points at 39-27 (1:09). Riddick would then sink a three to end the first half with the Tigers leading 42-27.
UO would re-enter the single digits deficit as they started the second half on a 9-3 run (20:00-18:13) to trail 45-36. But the Eagles could not stop the next nine points (17:49-16:18) scored by ETBU, which they would grab their largest lead of the game at 54-36. This was created by a free throw (17:49) and layup (16:18) from Dooley plus three's by Riddick (17:16), and Brown (16:51). Over the next ten minutes, ETBU would keep the double-digit lead over UO until the Eagles would crack single digits with 6:24 to play down 73-64. UO would then get as close as seven points on a three-pointer by Dylan Gray (3:40) to trail 82-75. But ETBU would snag victory with eleven straight points (3:40-1:00) thanks to three's by Riddick (3:01), Fontenot (1:39), and Dooley (1:00) along with a layup by Sabo (2:16) to lead 93-75. UO would make one final three-pointer in the end to make the final score 93-78.
ETBU will head to Tyler to face the University of Texas Tyler Patriots this Saturday ay 4:00 PM.
