MARSHALL, TX- Closing out the regular season with another road contest, the East Texas Baptist University men's basketball team will travel to Richardson, Texas to take on the University of Texas Dallas to close out the regular season. Heading into the final American Southwest Conference game of the year, ETBU sits at 19-5 overall and 13-4 in ASC games.
The Tigers are looking to put the 95-85 loss to the division-leading LeTourneau Yellow Jackets behind them entering Saturday's season-ending showdown with UTD. ETBU got a strong contribution from
Jordan Gosey, who tallied 22 points and 10 rebounds in his final home game at ETBU.
ETBU commands a potent offense, averaging 90.2 points per game while allowing 83.3.
Robby Dooley leads the Tigers in scoring, averaging 16.5 points per game on the year.
Westin Riddick sits at second place in the scoring column, contributing 12.7 points per game.
Darrice Whitley rounds out the scoring effort at 11.9 points per game.
Landin Brown mans ETBU's offense, averaging 5.3 assists per game and 123 total for the season. Brown is also first in steals and second in rebounds, at 2.2 and 6.5, respectively. Gosey anchors the effort inside, pulling down a team-leading 7.4 rebounds per game.
ETBU will be looking to avenge an earlier loss to the Comets in Ornelas Gymnasium this season. In the overall series matchup, UTD commands the edge, going 26-15 in the first 41 games played. In the ASC standings, UTD is currently second in the ASC East with an overall record of 17-6 and a 13-3 conference record. Reigning ASC Player of the Week Dimitrius Underwood leads the Comets, averaging 18.1 points and 5.9 rebounds per game.
Entering the final ASC matchup of the regular season, Head Coach
Brandon Curran talked about the importance of focusing on the defensive end heading into the ASC Tournament.
"UT Dallas is a great team and they're really hard to defend. It's an opportunity for us to get better heading into the Tournament. It's going to be a great challenge but I know our guys are going to step up as they have all year," Curran said.
